WCA Meets with UNESCO to Preserve the Endangered Aramaic Language

Following a recent request, WCA met with UNESCO at its headquarters in Paris on 26 April 2018 to discuss the endangered Aramean cultural heritage, especially the Aramaic language.

In relation to its declared Year of the Aramean People, WCA seeks to safeguard, develop and promote the more than 3,000-year-old cultural heritage of the Arameans. Against this backdrop, a WCA delegation met in the capital of France with UNESCO's Director of Knowledge Societies Mr. Indrajit Banerjee and Programme Specialist Mr. Fackson Banda.

The UNESCO representatives agreed with Ms. Sarah Bakir (WCA Director for UN Affairs) and Dr. Mikael Öz (WCA Researcher from SOAS University of London) on cooperation regarding the awareness and preservation of the Aramean cultural heritage.
